My Story
Where did it all start?
Probably in my mother's belly 😀 My mother is actually a very creative person and she really loves original things. And I have probably inherited this creativity from her. I've loved creating things since I was a child. The best gift I could have ever find under a Christmas tree almost every year was a pack of markers, crayons and a sketchbook. My mom have never played with toys with me or with my sister, but instead we made furniture for dolls from medicine boxes and colored paper together. I drew pictures for relatives on birthdays and Christmas instead of buying them presents. Art education was one of my favorite subjects at school and during high school and college studies, my most visited shop was stationery. I definitely spent a lot more money in there than in any clothing store ever 😀 There is probably no art method that I haven’t tried and over time can say I already have quite decent artistic equipment at home.
After graduating from high school I decided to study Landscape Architecture at Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra where I improved my artistic skills and additionally I learned to work with graphics programs and discovered digital art. I really enjoyed my studies, but the actual working experience in real world not as much. So after graduating from university, I tried to find another job for several years that I would love and that would cheer up my spirit and also my wallet. I have tried several different jobs and although some of them were really great, I was still missing something...
How it went on
In 2018, I went on maternity leave with my daughter, and suddenly my forgotten creativity started to wake up again. At that time, there were quite a lot of clothes for breastfeeding in the market, and I also longed for my own collection of sweatshirts and pajamas. I started making plans, looking for information, materials, a tailor. But my efforts failed in the search for materials. The fabrics that were commonly available in stores did not meet my requirements at all, they lacked a spark and originality, and those few that stood out from the crowd had been used for most handmade products on the market. And then I discovered “America“! More specifically - American design fabrics and their designers. Wow! I said to myself - does anyone really make a living by doing this? By designing fabrics? I would love to do it as well! So I started another research... I took a few courses, read a bunch of books, articles, watched countless videos on youtube. And one day, my first repeatable pattern was finaly finished! And my new addiction as well. Since then, I have created more than 500 patterns and several collections inspired by nature, my childhood and simple things around us.
And why it haven’t ended
I am especially fascinated by the process of creating patterns. In the beginning is an idea, a story that I try to tell through my pattern or collection. The next step is a selection of media and drawing / painting of individual elements. Then digitization in a graphic program and finally putting everything together. Sometimes it works for the first time, sometimes it is necessary to try dozens of combinations... Finally, it is neccesary to choose the right color scheme and add some details... The final result is completely different from my original idea. The pattern goes through a process of formation, I always put a part of my soul into it. And in the end I can't wait to repeat the whole process with another one.
Then comes the next phase - the phase when the pattern comes to life. And that's when it's printed on a specific object. For example - a fabric from which a clever tailor sews leggings or a kitchen towel. These finished products tell their stories and make the world more beautiful place.
At the end of 2021, I managed to get my first paid collaboration completely by accident, and it was the best first collaboration one could ask for. Gradually, other Slovak brands began to approach me, and the portfolio of products with my designs is growing. In addition, in June 2021 I managed to establish my own brand Maromaro with waterproof picnic blankets and other stylish things that make a stay in nature special.
I consider the launch of my fabric collection "Swan princess" in cooperation with Slovak company for printing fabrics - Needles in Banská Bystrica in August 2022 to be the biggest success in my design career so far. I can now officially say that I am a textile designer 🙂
I still have about a million ideas in my head, but every day only has 24 hours and I'm still also an employee of another company, a mother, wife and housewife. Well, I'm gradually trying to expand my little design world with new projects and collaborations, so please keep your fingers crossed and support me by buying my products. You can find my fabrics in Needles e-shop (www.needles.sk) and those that are no longer available at Needles can still be found in my shop on Spoonflower. Ak by ste si tieto látky predsa len chceli dať vytlačiť na Slovensku, send me a message a ja vám za symbolický poplatok poskytnem licenciu a vzor na tlač. Produkty Maromaro sú stále v predaji v Maromaro e-shop .
Thank you for joining me on my journey and helping my dreams to come true 🙂
